Puerto Rico Registered Nurse (RN)

32 hours · Every three years

RNs shall earn thirty (30) contact hours every renewal period + two (2) additional hours for the Equity and Respect course.

Special Requirements

  • Three (3) hours of infection control that includes HIV, Hepatitis and TB is also required.
  • Six (6) hours must be relevant to the RN's specialty area or functional role.
  • Two (2) additional hours in the Equity and Respect course in which bioethics and discrimination are addressed in general. It must instruct on discrimination in all its forms recognized in the Law, including due to race, color, sex, age, religion, ethnic or national origin or identification, political ideology, present or future physical or mental disability, medical information. or genetic, social condition, pregnancy, sexual orientation or ability or form of payment of the user or consumer of said services and facilities. (Applies from 2024 onwards).
NOTE: If the RN resides in the United States and wishes to maintain their Puerto Rico license, 50% of the required CEU hours must be obtained from a Puerto Rico provider.

APRNs shall earn thirty (50) contact hours every renewal period and two (2) additional hours for the Equity and Respect course.
