Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN)

Minnesota Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)

There are no additional continuing educational requirements for the APRN (CNS, CNP, CNM, CRNA) license renewal. 
  • Current APRN certification on file at the Board will meet the twenty-four (24) contact hours of continuing education during a twenty-four (24) month period of registration requirement for the RN license (RNs are required to complete twenty-four [24] contact hours every two [2] years). 
  • Current certification in the role and population for which the individual is licensed must be on file with the Board.

Special Requirements

  • To practice advanced practice registered nursing in Minnesota an individual must be licensed and currently registered as an RN and as an APRN.

Minnesota Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

CNAs shall work at least eight (8) hours as a paid nursing assistant every twenty-four (24) months to remain on the Nursing Assistant Registry.

Special Requirements

  • Please check with your facility/employer to ensure your continuing education courses are accepted. 
  • There is no requirement to submit in-service documentation specifically related to the Nursing Assistant Registry. Nursing homes and boarding care homes must follow state and federal regulations.

Minnesota Medical Assistant (MA)

MAs are not required to be certified to work in Michigan. However, employers may require, or individuals may choose to pursue a credential as either a Certified Medical Assistant or a Registered Medical Assistant. MAs typically work in outpatient settings like doctor's offices and clinics.
